Project – Fire Alarm Replacement
PAS were appointed to undertake an open market tender of the upgrade and replacement of the fire alarm system at a prestigious 150,000 sq. ft. office located in the Holborn area of London, which had Grade 2 listed status. The appointment included initial feasibility report, design, specification, procurement and project management through to commissioning and handover of the fire alarm system.
The main building formed part of a complex of three buildings all directly connected to each other, with each building having a separate fire alarm system within its demise. One of the key objectives of the projects was to ensure reporting of all fire and fault conditions within the buildings to the relevant facilities team to co-ordinate fire procedures within their respective demises, in consideration to shared emergency exits between the respective buildings and comprehensive fire strategy.
The fire alarm and existing public address system were replaced due to lifecycle expiry and obsolesce of existing system and the new system adhered to the current BS 5839-1 & BS EN 54 standards, DDA requirements and in accordance at the time with Section 20 approval. The project included the replacement or all cabling and included the installation of VESDA air sampling systems for atrium areas, fireman’s control panel, graphical user package and new building cause and effect regime.
The project was carried out without any loss of fire alarm facility and disruption to the buildings occupants throughout the duration of the project and delivered on program and within budget, to our client’s satisfaction.
